CAP-HAITIEN, Haiti — Eight Christian women on an eight-day mission trip from the U.S. helped distribute 800 pounds of food, 100 pounds of toys, 1,800 pairs of shoes and 2,700 pounds of medical supplies in this Caribbean nation.
Sheryl MurrahAnother number — 20 — was particularly meaningful for team member Sheryl Murrah. That’s how many years Murrah, a member of the Sugar Creek Church of Christ in Charlotte, N.C., has participated in missions in Haiti.
“I didn’t realize that it had been 20 years until Julsain Blanc, a Haitian minister and graduate from the Center for Biblical Training in Galman-du-Platt, reminded me,” Murrah said.
“But the driving force is all about God.”
The women hosted three Ladies’ Day programs. One participant spoke the native language, Creole, as she addressed the Haitian women.
The team visited a prison, a hospital, 19 churches that operate orphanages and schools, the Victory for Haiti Foundation and the Center for Biblical Training, a school that produces ministers for Churches of Christ.
“We would like to thank the Haitian Christian Foundation for allowing us to stay at the center,” Murrah said. “It was a blessing to be in the midst of God-fearing and loving brethren.” Because of donations made to the mission trip, “thousands were able to have a meal for several days,” she added.
In addition to Murrah and her daughter, Angel, team members included Veralisa Hunter, Sierra Woollard, Lydia De Mesa Matias, Terri Baskin, Aleice Allen and Diane Allen.
